Romantic, Cheap Bridesmaid Dresses for the Wedding

Choosing the perfect dresses for your bridesmaids is one of the most important decisions for a successful wedding. Their appearance will be a beautiful feature of the wedding.

A bridesmaid is usually a close friend or sister who will help the bride with wedding planning. In ancient times, the bridesmaid protected the bride against evil spirits by wearing a dress similar to the bride's gown. The idea was to confuse evil spirits with their look-alike dresses.

Find a Budget Bridesmaid Dress

Selecting dresses for your bridesmaids is exciting. But it can be challenging as well. After all, you have to juggle the preferences and schedules of your lovely bridesmaids to get dresses chosen, ordered, delivered and fitted in time for the wedding. It is a thoughtful gesture when the bride allows the bridesmaids to choose their own dresses, or at least listens to their opinions. Out of concern for the bridesmaid budget, the dress should never cost more than $200. Often you can find budget bridesmaid dresses for sale on eBay. Matching suits or street dresses for the bridesmaids will also help everyone stay on a budget.

The bridesmaid pays for the dress, the bridal party and the bachelorette party, a gift for the bride, her own hair, makeup, shoes, hat and underthings. If she lives out of town, there will also be travel expenses. When brides want the bachelorette party to be a destination event, there are additional hotel and travel expenses. Some brides even ask their bridesmaids to try liposuction, lasik surgery and botox to get in shape for the walk down the aisle. Those dress fittings and parties will require time off from work, which is lost vacation time or even lost pay. When you are asked to be a bridesmaid for a bride-zilla friend, and consider the cost versus your budget, it sometimes is sensible to decline.

Budget Bridesmaid Dress Styles

The best bridesmaid dress is simple and stylish. Just any old dress will not do. And it's not "one size fits all." Each of the bridesmaids is likely to be a different body type. One will be flat-chested. Another will be plus size. Another will complain that the dress makes her rear look too big. Another bridesmaid wants a racy neckline to highlight her best features. Another bridesmaid is sure that she can't wear pink, or white, or blue, or red, and so on. And then, out of the blue, your maid of honor will tell you that she's pregnant.

When you, the bride, choose the bridesmaid dresses, everyone wants you to avoid eccentric dress styles. Bridesmaids usually don't want to be seen with large puffy sleeves, a bustle in the back, big floral prints, Civil War revival styles, fabrics so shiny they look like cellophane, or fabrics that look like gift wrapping. Brides, don't ask your bridesmaids to wear slutty mini skirts and plunging necklines, unless they actually want to look slutty. Don't put those little flat hats with a big tulle bow on your bridesmaids. Avoid bridesmaid dresses that look like something worn by Klingons, a Vegas stripper, or Hello Kitty. Watch out for a bridesmaid dress so sheer that raunchy tattoos show through, or fabrics you can see through in bright light. There should be no kilts for the bridesmaids unless you are actually Scottish, no dowdy Granny dresses, no outfit that looks like a piece of underwear, a bustier or a corset. Say no to any bridesmaid dress that needs glue or tape to stay in place.

Recycling the Budget Bridesmaid Dress

Since the bridesmaids usually pay for their own dresses, they want a dress that can be worn again after the wedding. Those dresses are few and far between. Bridesmaid dresses made of taffeta, satin, chiffon and organza really can't be worn again, but jersey and cotton will look good at parties later on. Make a special effort to find a bridesmaid dresses that can be worn again.

Bridesmaids can also donate their dresses to charity after the wedding. Project Bridesmaids is a nationwide activity that accepts donated dresses so that high school girls can wear them to the prom. Another similar charity is Fairy Godmothers. If your bridesmaid dress is languishing in your closet, donating it to charity is a way to give the dress a second life.

It is a breathtaking sight to see the bridesmaids walk down the aisle. When you find the perfect bridesmaid dresses, and everyone is happy with them, your biggest task is finished, You can look forward to the romantic, Cinderella wedding you always dreamed about as a little girl.
